While the premise was intriguing I didn't care for how distant I felt from the characters. Many didn't even names and the 2 who did, I found irritating. It felt like stream of consciousness and that style of writing doesn't appeal to me.

I'm sure many other people will enjoy this story.

I'm giving this one two stars but I recognize that I'm one of just a few reviewers. I'll try to give some constructive criticism as this is a debut author. I really liked this book as a concept. I picked it up from a small, local bookstore because I read the back blurb and found it intriguing.

Unfortunately, I felt the plot got a bit lost. I didn't understand a few things: why did Gleamwood matter? what's the deal with the Christmas trees? why were only some of the characters named? why did Arjun feel like an incel yet I was supposed to feel bad for him? why was every single female character so heavily dependent on men despite seeming to be a strong person? I had so many questions by the end of this book. I was expecting a commentary on politics and climate change that simply didn't hit the mark for me. I think this book could've been tightened up with a good editor who'd suggest some of these changes. concept: 4.5/5, execution, 2-2.5/5. I also didn't connect with any of the characters. the amount of jumping around from person to person drove me nuts. any time I would get even slightly invested in a character and their story, it would switch to another person. argh! my general experience with this book was "argh!" which is not what I'd recommend.

The Unmapping had such an interesting premise and was so excited to receive a copy from NetGalley, but my goodness it was so not what I expected. For a big city like New York whose buildings somehow move every day, creating chaos, technical problems and a lot of people simply getting lost, there's for sure a clear lack of action and emotion. 20% in and basically nothing has happened yet, the main character fails to keep me interested so sadly I am giving up. (I also tried the audiobook, narrated by the amazing Julia Whelan, but unfortunately it was not better).

* I'd like to thank Denise S. Robbins, Bindery Books and NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

i had high hopes because the concept was extremely interesting. ultimately i think this tried to do too much and also didn’t really have a satisfying conclusion for me.
