My by the lake read. Warm, fun, and easy.
I went into this book (my first by this author) blind and I am so glad I did. Ben and Florence’s story is so unique and so far left field of what I usually read, but I had the most amazing time reading it. The way Poston writes about death, grief, moving forward, and even celebrating the dead was so beautiful. I loved the tension between Ben and Florence (and the fact that they literally couldn’t act on it because you know, reasons) and I was so invested in how there would be a resolution by the end. I was so pleasantly surprised and pleased with the direction this book took. I’ll be thinking about this story for a while.
Nice fall read. I especially liked the unique plot.
There was some minor details that distracted from a strong plot for me. Being a millennial I would think I am part of the target audience however, it was just a little too much of young millennial/gen Z thrown into it. I found it be more annoyingly off putting of characters than helpful for the story. It sounds like “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom” was trying too hard to sound current and hip. Idk, maybe I am old and lame

Honestly, it took me a while to fully "get into" this book, but I ended up really enjoying it. I think the idea around the whole story is really cool and that it was executed well. It was cute throughout and I was cheering at the end.
this ripped my heart out and sewed it back together.
