I liked this a lot more than the first book. The magic is really interesting and it was fun to learn along with Saffron.

Honestly, this series has taken over my whole brain. Lord of Silver Ashes was a fantastic sequel. The magic system is so unique and it was awesome to get more of that in this book. Also, I can’t express how much I love the gender rep. It’s so effortless and wonderful and affirming.

Last but not least, Saffron and Cylvan have my entire heart. Character driven books are my favorite and these characters are the best. I just love them so so much and can’t wait to read more of their story.

Writing-wise this second book in the series was a vast improvement compared to the first, it even made me lower the score I initially gave to POTS (now 3 stars, known in my rating system as "liked it, but the flaws heavily dampened my enjoyment"; we are for sure getting close to 4 stars, and being indie I'm more forgiving in my rating), with my major complaint being the fact it should have not been as long (honestly, POTS needed the extra pages more, to develop the story better, it was rough).

It was a frustrating reading experience at times, especially when a bunch of scenes were unnecessary to the overall plot (one good example is the train scene that happens at around over 75%, where a major misunderstanding happens, utterly useless btw, and was there just for the drama and angst of it all, other than to create a shallow excuse to keep the main characters separated for a bit and make the villains feel even more despicable), would have preferred if the pages were used to develop some characters interactions more (for example, Eias and Magnin? Just pawns that were barely there).

Like the first book I've to give praise to the care put into the world-building and this time, also in the story execution considering it flowed better. Loved the introduction of Asche, and I hope we see more of them and the others (Letty, Hollow, Nimue) in the next installment. Although I'm in no rush to read book 3, this first arc concluded without a major cliffhanger.

pacing all over the place. really hard to keep up with, lots of whiplash. many secrets. appreciate the clarity that came together at the end.

This series has me in a bit of a chokehold if im being honest. I can't stop thinking about it. Im obsessed.
Apparently Kellen Graves has 8 books planned for the Rowan Blood Saga. While I can't fathom why, I can not wait for WHEN.

I thought that Lord of Silver Ashes was, initially, more exciting than Prince of Sorrows. But while Prince of Sorrows built and built to quite the climax. Silver Ashes sort of petered out. It felt like the typical second book in a series. A way to get from book one to book three. It was important yes, but was is as interesting or fun to read as Prince of Sorrows was? nah, not really.

Lord of Silver Ashes was a little more bloody, a lot more angsty, a little more magical and a whole lot sexier than it's predecessor.

I am super curious as to where the author will be taking this series.
would definitely recommend

Honestly, it's not as if the bad reviews don't make great points. I agree with most of them.

But there is just something about these books that has an absolute chokehold on me. The world building is delightful, the characters are real and gritty and so very flawed. The relationship between the two MMCs is perpetually messed up by one of them making a weird/wrong decision (which, considering they're in college, seems very normal), yet what remains true is that they are both in love with the other and are just trying their best.

However, I swear to god, if these two don't catch A GODDAMN BREAK in the third book, I'll riot. Let them have a moment to be HAPPY.

I have just become completely enthralled with this series. It deserves WAY more hype than it has!!

I stayed up until 2a.m. to finish this and any book that makes me do that is worth 5 stars. These books are just so addicting.

This does what a good sequel should do - expand the world and provide new insights into already established lore. One of my complains about the first one is that the magic wasn't as present as I wanted it to be, but here it's demonstrated so well and is used in a variety of different ways. Additionally, the world just feels more fleshed out, as I thought the academic setting limited this in the first book.

Oddly enough, I preferred Saffron being trapped inside the house than him interacting with the academy like in the first book. I was worried going into the book, given his imprisionment and the fact he couldn't speak for the majority of the book, that it would get frustrating and repetitive. But it facilitated my favourite aspect of fey stories - the schemeing and political plots, which I thought the first one lacked a bit. Saffron didn't have many options, so he had to use his cunning and deception to escape. I loved Saffron in the first book but I thought he was just incredible here. It was interesting to see how he navigated the inability to speak and actually used it to help himself in some cases.

Kellen Grave's writing is brilliant. Sometimes, I thought the Greek mythology metaphors where over the top, but the construction of sentences and vivid imagery brings the novel to life.

I just adore these books. And there's going to be a third one this year? I'm eating well tonight.

This book was SO GOOD. I found myself getting so angry during this book but like in a good way. We can really see the characters changing and growing and I LOVE IT.
