Lord of Silver Ashes feels like a natural extension of Prince of the Sorrows, in fact aside from the issue of length I’d argue it might’ve been better suited as part of the same book, aside from the plot device that separates the main couple for the first quarter of the book. Many of the mysteries put forth in the first book are expanded upon and answered in the second.
All in all I love the world of Rowan Blood and I fell in love with the side characters that we got to spend more time with, even the bad guys. I was surprised at the level of darkness and violence that erupted toward the end, but it all felt earned with the aura of repression and menace throughout the book. Saffron truly cannot catch a break. Cylvan, more in need of rescuing than being a dashing rescuing, sometimes seems to lack a lot of agency. There’s a lot of plot that hinges around misunderstandings and deception. I’m fine with all of these things and I thought they were handled well, but it may not stick the landing for everyone. The sex scenes were more plentiful in this book, including some new kinks I quite enjoyed, as well as a sapphic scene that will live in my head rent-free.
The criticisms I had of the first book still stand. At first the run-on sentences seemed much improved, but at the same time as the plot started picking up I noticed more issues with that.
This was another hard-cover Rainbow Crate edition. This one experienced a little bit of fraying on one bit of the spine, and some of the foil rubbed off even handling it relatively delicately. Aside from that I am very pleased with how beautiful the product is.
Graphic: Genocide, Slavery, Violence, Sexual harassment
Moderate: Sexual assault
3.5/3.75 the sequel dragged a bit in the name of propelling the plot, but I’ll 100% be picking up the next installment

This book was WILD. I mean that in the best way possible of course. Like I had to sometimes put the book down after a chapter and just walk around to process what I read before going right back because I had to see how things would play out.
If there's one thing I love in books is our good characters being cunning. I swear seeing them be clever makes me so excited and invested.
This is a new adult, which from what I can tell the only thing that differentiates that new class of books is spice. I'm not a spice person. I actually prefer my books to be spice free because there's nothing I hate more than when there are interesting, high-stakes things going on and they take a backseat to some fucking. As far as spice goes, this book did well only really having sexual scenes in quieter moments towards the end of the book. It generally felt like there was proper build up before the scenes which I appreciate and makes it easier for me to read those scenes and enjoy the intimacy of the characters.
Anyways, it was a fantastic sequel that I absolutely tore through.
