This was a very interesting read, though it sometimes felt a little out of my depth of understanding with how it was written. I’m desperate to know what happened to Dick!

McGrath captivated me in a way which few non-fiction books are able to do. Well done!

What an amazing story. Shame that this guy was the one to tell it.

It’s like hearing a New Yorker talk about Texas. No real clue of story or art. It’s basically a navel gazing journey the author takes while touring the places this really interesting guy travels through. Somehow manages to make it all about himself.

Read the first four chapters, read the final two. A great story even self-abridged

A New Yorker writer, through a neighbor, met Duck Conant as he was canoeing through the area. Intrigued, he followed him to the next stop where they talked about the journey and other things. He wrote an article in the New Yorker.  He has given his name and phone number to Conant. Some time later he received a call from the Coast Guard. A canoe had been discovered, overturned, and his name and number had been found on a piece of paper. Did he know how to get in touch with the family? So began the effort to get in contact with the people he had met on his journeys canoeing through and around the country. The result is this wonderfully amazing book.
