This was a contradictory experience for me. I was compelled by Zott and her story. I also agree with the critiques that she wasn't entirely believable as a character from the 50s. I liked many side characters (Harriet, Wakely, the Doctor), but could not suspend my disbelief about the dog's POV (even though it was tender) or the super-genius 4 year old. I think most of why I enjoyed this was due to the audiobook narrator.

It was really good! A lot of fun, a quick read. Sad in a way that felt earned, and the constant connections between characters was cute and charming to me, even if it also felt silly at times.

This book would be wonderful if the author had done any research (beyond mild science in cooking) in any of the other hot topics mentioned it it - orphanages, rowing, dog training, SA. It's unfortunate that a strong plot line -though fiction- had such lack of reality or writing in the time period. Not sure why it is so popular.

Such a unique, special book-- felt kind of litfic, the way it all comes full circle, but so heartfelt, so loving, so ambitious. Thank God for the Elizabeth Zotts that have made my time in science easier, and my life as a woman more free. Can't wait to watch the show.
