I'm in love with this series, and this book was a gem! These stories always have so many levels, and always keep me guessing. Jacques invariably goes in an unexpected direction and I absolutely LOVE it.

The additional story of the Redwall residents fighting to keep their abbey while their heroes were away was magic. I love Cornflower and Mrs. Churchmouse, as well as all of Jacques' characters are so compelling - villains and heroes alike.

My only (slight) complaint was that I wish that Mattimeo had been a bit more of an active participant, given his role in the story (and presumably, moving forward). Very minor complaint, but it tickled a bit.

I recommend this book to all readers and fans of fiction. This is fantasy, but not over-the-top. You won't be disappointed.

Mattimeo is a troublemaker, he has been raised with privilege and knows it. He never dreamed he would ever really struggle, but the world has other plans. Join Mattimeo and his friends as they learn what it is to have everything and then nothing. Mathias is also back and he goes on yet another journey to save Redwall Abbey. Constance, Cornflower and Jess Squirrel are some of my favorite characters. They show time and again how it takes more than brute strength to win.

I did not like Mattimeo the character at all. In fact most of the 'Dibbuns' were annoying.

But the plot itself wasn't really all that interesting to me, and the climax seemed rushed. I just didn't enjoy it as I had the first two books.

Dec. 2022 - A childhood favorite that’s still a grand adventure! The full-cast audiobooks are also fabulous.
