An inspiring story about overcoming oppression in a severe paternalistic society that serves only to put every female in their place, and if they’re not deemed pure enough, they’re killed. Yep. You heard that right.

Harsh. Brutal. Violent. This pulls no punches on what women in this fictional world are subjected to. Good thing there’s an ally who has put in motion a series of events that starts the beginning of the end of such a cruel and unfair culture.

Filled with a bit of magic, a brewing teen romance, plenty of legend and lore, and wondrous creatures and monsters, Deka’s journey has just begun, and I look forward to seeing how she fights for her freedom and those of her fellow sisters!

Go Girl Power!!

now as you can see it took me awhile to read this book.
this book isn’t a bad book in no means, the reason I’m only giving it a 3.5 rating is simply because I had no idea what I was reading half the time, I was a little confused. the rating is mostly based on Keita and Deka who I’ve learned to love.
The story was a fast paced book, and thank god for audiobook that helped me finally get through this. I think having someone read this to me gave me a better understanding of the plot.
I’ll definitely read the second but mostly for Keita and Deka

A hidden gem that I stumbled across in the book store last month. A beautiful tale of sisterhood and perseverance. I would highly recommend all YA fantasy lovers to read this book. Especially women and girls.
