Aaaargh, I am so indecisive about this book.
I love mysterious, spooky houses with possible hauntings and family curses and the ambiance that comes with all that. The mystery of the two Gallants, hinted by the cover and only somewhat explained during Olivia's exploration, that kind of stuff hits all of my favorite spooky story tropes.
Unfortunately, the ending kind of ruined the book for me a bit. The ridiculously obvious trap that led to the catastrophe at the book's climax (and poor Matthew's suffering) left me more annoyed than absorbed by the read. Up until that point this book was a five-star read for me. Ah well.

This felt like Locke & Key meets Coraline. You’d think I would’ve liked it more but it was just an okay way to spend the day.
