The main character is a fearless girl who is a little beast. She doesn't allow people to bully her, she gets back at them and doesn't shy from the ghosts, ghouls or her past.
Olivia goes to her mother's family home and she explores the mystery of it. She also uncover secrets of the family and the manor through her mother's journals. You meet her slightly unhinged cousin who is not a delight and his cryptic comments as well as a nice couple who are servants of the family because everyone else is either dead or dissapeared.
I went back and forth on if I liked this one of not. I did this one as an audiobook and ebook and I think maybe the audiobook was messing with my decision. The writing is very well done and the characters and story are interesting.
About halfway i decided I like this alot and it was an easy 4 star but that ending had me so mad

It was interesting reading a horror book with a protagonist who cant scream an that part was well executed. The overall plot and characters on the other hand were just ok
Sinto-me traída! Na verdade, acho que estou mão acostumada. Minas últimas leituras foram tão boas que pensei que teria a mesma sensação ao ler esse livro. E veja bem, tive, mas o final meio que estragou toda a minha boa experiência.
Não vou dizer que odeio finais em aberto. Alguns até são muito bons. Mas no caso desse livro em específico simplesmente odiei. Sinto como se nada tivesse mudado, tudo continuou exatamente igual, única diferença é que agora a Olívia sabe e o Matthew está morto, só isso.
Só não desgostei mais, pois a autora escreve realmente muito bem. Já tinha lido outros livros dela, por isso fui com tanta expectativa para este. Mas né, a expectativa é a mãe da frustração.

Almost perfect. The ending got in the way of a full 5 stars. But my god... beautifully written. Olivia was slightly vexxing, and Matthew a pain in the ass, but I'm so glad I read it. I couldn't put it down. Reminded me of a modern day Northhanger Abbey with real ghouls and parellel worlds. Great read.
As all of Schwab’s books, the ending is hard fought and hard won. Melancholy, lonely, and yet hopeful.
