2.5 ⭐️ as much as I absolutely hate to admit it.. I love Schwab’s writing style and she really creates such stunning imagery through her words, but this story just didn’t ever fully grab me. It felt very slow and once it picked up it was the very end of the book like 30 pages. Don’t get me wrong, this will in NO way put me off reading more Schwab, I currently have “city of ghosts” sitting next to me I’m planning to read next! This particular story just wasn’t for me apparently.

Short, full of ghouls, mysterious journals, and conflictual homecomings and self discovery. It's Schwab so you already know it broke my heart.
One of my students loaned me this book but I kept thinking of Coraline the whole I read this tale. The artwork is amazing and the explanation of the scenes was amazing.
