This book was very interesting and unique. I literally NEVER say this but I think this could use another 100-150 pages to fully explore a lot of the interesting aspects of the book. A bit more time with most of the characters would've really added to the emotional weight of the story as well. I absolutely loved the story, but wish I could've enjoyed it longer and with a bit more time to appreciate all it had to give. Definitely recommend reading!

just wasn't for me, pretty predictable and I didn't feel a lot of connection to anything that was happening.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️– Gallant by V.E. Schwab

This was my second V.E. Schwab read after The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and while Gallant is a very different beast, it still carries that same quiet emotional weight that sneaks up on you. Where Addie was sprawling and romantic, Gallant is more stripped-down and gothic, quieter, spookier, and almost fairytale-like. I felt like I was walking through a more grim version of The Secret Garden while reading Gallant (nostalgia kick anyone?)

I loved the eerie, dreamlike atmosphere and the way the story explored grief and belonging without ever needing to be loud about it. Olivia’s voice—or lack of one—was powerful, and the way she moved through the world felt both vulnerable and stubborn in a way that stuck with me.

It didn’t quite hit the emotional high of Addie, but Gallant still carved out its own space in my heart. A soft, shadowy story about finding home, even when it’s haunted.

A beautiful story about the transience of life and death, family, home, and love. The story relies a lot on Schwab’s powerful personification of death, and the hollow uncertainty that surrounds the protagonist.

Wow! I wasn't expecting that intense and dark of a story, but I was hooked right from the beginning. Great writing!

A wonderful book containing an eerie and twisted story though the beginning was a bit slow and I would've added a few pages to the end. However, this didn't diminish the reading experience. Gallant is different than I expected (but in a really good way) and I love the concept of the story. The darkness, brutality and gothic-like morbidity were brilliant.
