I cannot believe I used to regularly read this book as a kid.
- The language was definitely above my reading level at the time, I must’ve had great reading comprehension because I still remember some of these stories.
- The ghost stories told in this collection are actually really scary! In this re-read I definitely woke up from nightmares convinced a ghost was in my room, and lingering feelings of dread while reading some of these retellings.
I am so happy I decided to re-read this one as part of Book.Club.Bitches Summer Reading Bingo for the prompt “re-read a childhood favourite.” Growing up, the scariest story to me was Haunted Apartment to Let, and this time around, the one that freaked me out the most was “Poltie” Did It. I know my favourite chapter when I was younger was the one on Haunted Houses and I would say that sentiment remains the same, but I would add Eerily Entertaining and Spirit Snippets up there as my new sections that gave me the biggest creeps.
This collection stands the test of time, a great combination of Alberta slice of life, but with frightening elements.
