It feels odd to call a book about grief lighthearted, but that’s what this was. I think it really captured the complexities of grief. It was still a gut-punch, but there were little quips and moments of levity that made the whole book.

I highly recommend this graphic novel to anyone who has lost a parent (or anyone) to cancer and looking for some validation or something that can almost perfectly sum up all the conflicting emotions and thoughts that come with losing a loved one. It could also be a good book to give people in your life who may not know what you’re experiencing, so they can better understand how you may be feeling (if you’re not ready to have that convo!). Or if you have a friend who lost someone and not to sure what to say or do, definitely give this one a read.

This graphic novel strikes just the right balance between being heartfelt and emotional but also lighthearted and hopeful. It so accurately depicts the mixed emotions that come with death of a family member and what it is like to go through the grieving process. It is never kitschy or trying to hard, but is honest and funny in some places. Highly recommend this book!
