 Belle Marion Greener is a Black woman from Washington, D.C. She and her family make a decision that she will pass as a white woman named Belle da Costa Green to ensure her family’s protection, legacy and success. In doing so, she moves to New York and becomes the personal librarian for financial mogul J.P. Morgan. While inspiring to see her excel in a white, male dominated space, it was also saddening to realize she never was able to bask in this success fully in her true identity. I felt this book was a respectable balance of historical accuracy and creative autonomy from the writers. This was such a beautiful read!
