Z and V are the right audience, but we definitely preferred Sun! One in a Billion by Stacey McAnulty.

A terrific teaching tool — early tweens (and older readers who are into this type of thing, like me 😂) will gobble this up. It’s like if The Oatmeal wrote and illustrated informational texts for middle grade readers, which is a super huge compliment.

Love the mix of humor and informational text. Great read aloud for space lovers.

Cutest book I’ve ever read about the solar system. I feel like my kids aren’t old enough to really understand it yet but I’m sure that just means I have more and more chances to read it to them. It’s adorable, silly, and full of important information.

A good introduction to the information with cute pictures but I felt it was overly simplistic in places. Also it comes off as condescending at times.

The Sun is Kind of a Big Deal by Nick Seluk is an informational picture book about the importance of the sun. It is intended for ages 5+ and was published on January 1, 2018. This book is a humorous look into our solar system and explains why the sun is such a big deal in our solar system. It explains how the sun keeps our solar system together, gives Earth night and day, keeps us warm, and explains that we wouldn't be here without the sun; this is a perfect informational text to engage students in a classroom about our solar system. This book would be good to read as a read-aloud when learning about the solar system in a classroom.  <informational> <picture book> <solar system>
