3.5 ⭐ --I knew this is going to be a very dense read and I really took my time with it.

I'm going to be completely honest--I knew that some of the subject matter was going to go completely over my head, especially when the author referenced other reading materials that I had never heard of or never read before--And I actually think that works against the message he was trying to put out.

This is not an "intro to fascism/beginner" book, and even though I have read quite a bit on fascism and have done my "homework", it was still a lot for me to process. I don't know if it's because I'm not intelligent enough (lol) or because, like I mentioned earlier, the writing wasn't communicating at optimum capacity. ✌🏼😃

I personally do not believe informative literature should be written in such verbose language. I found that this book could benefit from more editing. Many statements could have been communicated more precisely and eloquently. The contents of the book were interesting but not enough for me to get through the choice of words.

Excellent analysis of contemporary discourses regarding fascism, with an excellent balance between historically and theoretically grounded approaches and a very convincing focus on how central race and gender remain to any conceptualization of fascist movements.

The writing style is a bit convoluted. Like great vocabulary, but the writing felt like it took away from the message sometimes. Very interesting quotes from other sources and obviously this book is really relevant.

Late fascism is a very rich and interesting read, albeit not always easy to follow.
It summons up some philosophical concepts and references to books that I didn’t know, which made this reading a bit difficult for me. I thought the way it deals with concepts was a bit too abstract. At times it felt like it would have been more intelligible for me if it offered more analysis of current events in the world. I was probably not the main target for this essay, but I did appreciate some passages that give an overview of the ideas developed here. I also learnt a lot and it made me want to delve into the author’s very well-stocked bibliography.
When it’s translated into French it might not be a book I could buy for my library network as it feels a bit too intricate to be suitable for the general public, but I’ll be happy to recommend it to people around me.
Thanks to Verso Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance digital copy.
