This novel brings to mind The Ghost Whisperer and The 6th Sense with it's unlucky town and sensitive boy. For me this was a slow starter, but a few chapters in and I was hooked. Sarah is a fantastic character: empathetic, relatable, dedicated. Her interactions and relationship dynamics were realistic, but I'm not sure why Sophia Hudson or Yvonne were introduced to the story as they didn't add anything to the plot. I was surprised at how few supernatural, scary, or even eerie occurances popped up, so this would also be a good read for those that just want a tense thriller. I found the town and it's inhabitants intriguing snd although this book functions as a stand alone, I immediately downloaded the first in the series. I can't wait to return to Slayton and learn more of the towns stories.

This was my first book by this author, and unfortunately, I'm unsure if it will be reading any more going forward.

This just didn't work for me and had I not been buddy reading it I would have DNF'd. There were too many ridiculous eye roll worthy moments in this book, but especially coming from Sarah the Detective, her decision-making and actions were not those of a seasoned investigator. The pacing was off, and you jumped from character to character at times. I figured out what had gone on and who was behind it all pretty early on, so none of the "twists" shocked me. Even though this is book 3 in a series and can apparently be read as a standalone, you are introduced to characters you are clearly already meant to know & care about which if you read the books out of order you're not going to. So something needs to be put somewhere that it is advised to read in order as I think that's another reason I struggled with it.

‘The Bone House’ is a chilling thriller that really gets under the reader's skin! It is a creepy book that feels catastrophic as the malevolence builds up to a frightening crescendo. This is the third book in the Slayton Thrillers but it is easily read as a standalone. I haven't read the first two books and I thoroughly enjoyed this one and didn't feel as if I was missing out on anything!

Newsreaders have called it the ‘crowapocalypse’ as hundreds of crows suddenly died and landed into Slayton’s lake. The population of the local area is unsettled and wondering if it is an omen. When the lake is dredged to clear it of the birds, a pram is discovered and it looks as if there is the body of a baby in it. Detective Sarah Noble is tasked to finding out what has happened. It's the moment a local resident, Cora has been dreading…

This was a creepy book and I even ended up dreaming about it. They were not happy dreams! I really liked Sarah’s characters and the bond with her friends and of course with Elliot. The supernatural elements were extremely well done and they didn't feel as if they were unbelievable.

Let me know if you pick this one up!
