This was a little too long even at 1.5x speed, but I did enjoy it and finished the last half in a day! At first I felt like I was reading a combination of the Institute & Ninth House but while there were a lot of twists, I think it concluded well with some corny elements. Not my favorite Riley Sager but glad I read it.

Any easy and fast read if you want a mystery/thriller -  the protagonist Ethan moves into his childhood home and starts to piece together what happened to his childhood best friend who disappeared 30 years ago…

I really enjoyed the book. It even spooked me a bit. Would recommend for people who like mysteries/thrillers/whodunits.

Absolutely loved the twists. In typical Sager fashion, the pace really picks up at the end.

It wasn’t bad but it kind of dragged on for longer than necessary, I think if I had actually read the book instead of listening to the audio book I would’ve hated it.
I thought the premise was interesting and usually ‘cozy cul de sac mysteries’ end up digging up a bunch of secrets about other characters and lead to more plot twists but every new piece of background or “secret” we learned were pretty boring but still took up big chunks of time.
It just seemed like a lot of build up for a nothing burger ending
but I did like the characters and the way they interacted with each other seemed genuine

I read Middle of the Night for book club, and while I normally wouldn’t normally choose to read a thriller, this book kept me enthralled. I did accurately predict at least part of the ending, but there were enough plot twist and surprises to give me whiplash. It also definitely gave me goose bumps, but was wasn’t so scary that I couldn’t read it in the Middle of the Night 😜

I guessed all plot twists from the beginning, so the rest of the book seemed pretty dragged out. For me, this is one of the worse Riley Sager's books.
