What I thought to be an unnerving murder case soon became a staggering and strangely heartwarming hug of grief.
Haunted by memories of our loved ones, we seek any form of connection to them. From a light breeze to a secret message, we want it to be them, and maybe it is. How our own brain can be the villain of our story and how we, without fail, always end up frantically looking for reasons for it not to be such truths. The pacing left me wanting to read more and more until I was out of theories, which ran from door to door on the cul-de-sac. Accusing anyone of evil is easy when you seek justice and perhaps because anyone might be capable of doing harm. I really enjoyed my time reading about friendship, the innocence of childhood, forgiveness, and acceptance. Let it be a lesson, if not comfort. They do exist! Enjoy the book.

The story was pretty slow up until about 3/4 of the through. I almost didn’t like the constant jumping from suspect to suspect. It made it feel super repetitive. However I did not expect the ending, which made it even more sad. It wasn’t terrible, but a little too slow for me!

I love Riley’s books! He’s done it again. I thought I knew what happened or who did it, but nope! I figured nothing out. This story was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I didn’t want to put it down, it was full of suspense and mystery. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
It was fairly predictable but had some fun, spooky elements and some bits at the end that were surprisingly sweet.
