Pride and Prejudice is not my favorite Austen because of the bickering, and this probably had even more of it, but I thought this was a great adaptation that explored current issues and used the outline of the Pride and Prejudice prompt without just regurgitating it. I think it is a good YA version.

This was  a quick and loveable retelling. One about what a neighborhood  can mean for people. But  also what a change can mean for the evolution of a young female like Zuri, the main character.

I'm glad Pride was the first book I read by Ibi Zoboi. It was such a valid message on how new people who move in can evolve and have more depth and nuances  than meet the eye. Like Janae, Zuri's older sister and Darius Darcy the love interest.

This story  wrapped everything up nicely in a way that pointedly makes it clear life continues. The conclusion  made me smile. It was definitely  worth  picking  up  even not having  read the classic. But   it  missed depth and  emotion  when it came  to the relationships.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. The two characters talk maybe 3 times by the half way point, hate each other that entire time, and then all the sudden they’re into each other? There were several parts of the book where I just was slightly confused about the events happening.
They also had the same conversation over and over again.
But I did like the writing itself, it flowed beautifully.

Beautifully written the audiobook is done very well. The plot is a little thin with unnecessary drama from the typical misunderstanding tropes.
