Why do I keep coming back?! I loved behind closed doors. Amazing book. But everything she’s written since has fallen flat for me, this is no exception!
I was expecting a thriller but this is just a slow story about lack of communication. It really could’ve fitted into a quarter of the page count it has as there’s a lot of repetition and the story is dragged out so much longer than needed.
I didn’t feel anything for any of the characters and some of the things they did or situations they were in where just wholy unbelievable.
Might give the next one a miss.

I have loved all of B.A. Paris' other books and I was pumped to read this one. But, wow, what a depressing novel! I was expecting a suspenseful thriller. Instead, this was just a sad family drama. I kept waiting for a twist or surprise, but it just ended up leaving me sad.
This book was soooooo good until everyone revealed their secrets and then it just melted into a story where people could not communicate. This couple simply just did not communicate well with anyone. The ending was so anticlimactic I was just annoyed I finished it. I wanted there to be some crazy twist but there just wasn’t.
This was a really good thriller read coming out 2020 and very fast paced read too so defo recommended. It is about a family that all have dilemmas to try and work out throughout the book and I liked the writing style and just how it makes you think what would you do? I liked and disliked the characters throughout but I read late into the night.
Mehhh. After a point i started to skip lines just to get to the end of this boring book.
Wow! This book was a real nail biter!! Another one i finished in 2 days and stayed up too late reading!
This book is set all in one day...the day of Olivias 40th birthday party. A party shes been planning since she missed the wedding of her dreams. She vowed to set money aside and make this day one to remember.
For reasons out of her control. She will ALWAYS remember this day....
A MUST READ THRILLER.
B.A. Paris never disappoints and is definitely an auto buy author for me!
OUT JUNE 30TH!!

Meh. The entire plot would have been circumvented if the husband and wife each told the other their “secret” at the beginning of the book, or at least acted on it when they found them out. The format of the book was interesting; each chapter being a different time block during one specific day. It was quick to read through, but I was just annoyed by the inner turmoil of each main character keeping a secret from their spouse the entire time and it made the book less enjoyable as a whole.
Livia has been dreaming of her fortieth birthday for years, and it’s finally here. Although she’s been waiting for this day since she was 17, she will be glad when it is over, because Livia has a secret.
Adam knows his wife has been dreaming of her birthday for many years, and is determined to make sure it runs smoothly. When he learns something that could change his and Livia’s lives forever, he faces an unbearable decision – tell Livia now and ruin her day, or wait and risk her never forgiving him?
I was so so invested in this book early on, and then I just wasn’t any more. B.A. Paris has been a hit and miss author for me, and this book was a bit of both.
I found the first half of the book so compelling that I was finding any excuse to listen. I just had to know what was going on! I started to lose interest after a while though because it started to feel quite repetitive and a tired old trope. By the end of the book I just wanted to take the two main characters and bang their heads together! Virtually all of the drama that happens in this book could be avoided if they just spoke to each other.
I found Livia to be ridiculously self centred and incredibly unlikeable. I just couldn’t comprehend that she could be so obsessed with a birthday party, to the point where she would put it ahead of so many other things in her life. Adam on the other hand I had empathy for, to a point. Although we hear about him not being the best husband in the past, he has fully turned a corner in the present and would do anything for his wife. I still couldn’t understand his decisions though.
This is a very different read to previous books I’ve read by B.A. Paris. Although there’s the secretive aspect, it’s much more of a family drama than a suspense novel. At first I was loving the change of direction, and I think it had a lot of potential, just didn’t quite reach it. It did hit me hard in places, and got more of an emotional response than I expected, which adds bonus points. I kept holding out hope for the ending I wanted too, so maybe I was more invested that I thought.
A frustrating read is probably the best way to sum this up. From not wanting to stop listening in the earlier part, to wanting it to be over in the later part, I think a lot of my frustration comes from disappointment. I’m going with 3
