More of a family drama vs her normal psychological thrillers but a good story nonetheless!
This book honestly sucked. I tried my best to finish it but just couldn't torture myself anymore. The dilemma was so stupid. I'm not certain what happened but this is not the B.A. Paris I'be grown to love....
Livia’s surprise birthday is supposed to be the time of her life. Adam has planned for this day and wanted everything to be perfect. He is flying the kids in to surprise his wife and wants her to have the time of her life.
Unfortunately, now he faces a dilemma, does he tell his wife the secret learned or does he let her enjoy one last day of happiness?
This book was not what I expected and it seemed like everyone had secrets. These secrets could destroy so many lives. When they all come out, will they be strong enough to survive the pain?
This book was emotional and it had me asking myself, what I would do. I think I would be tempted to do what Adam did, but I wear my heart on my sleeve so I feel like I everyone would know that I was a mess. It was very introspective and it was very real.

I have read all four of the books by BA Paris and this was not good at all. I loved her first two novels, felt meh about the 3rd and found this one to be boring.
The story take place in a full day alternating between two characters, Livia and Adam each having a secret but wanted to get through the day first. Livia was having a giant 40th birthday party that she had been planning for 20 years because her parents disowned her when she got pregnant unmarried at 17 and she didn’t get to have her big dream wedding. So she spent 20 years planning a party for when she turned 40. I have never met anyone who has spent 20 years planning a birthday party. All I will say about these secrets is that they aren’t something you would keep from a spouse because of a birthday party even if you had spent 20 years planning it.
The character development was lacking. Half the time I couldn’t remember which point of view I was reading. The characters weren’t likable. In fact, I found them annoying and immature most of the time The plot was dry and boring. There were no twists or turns. As I said, the entire book was about waiting to share their secrets.
I am extremely disappointed in this book. As I said, this authors first 2 books were page turners. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this book to a friend.

Quite different from her other books. I wouldn't tag this one as psychological suspense but more family drama/mystery. I did enjoy this book and look forward to her next novel.
BA Paris is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! The Dilemma is a perfect and unique thriller-so many suspense novels center around murder but this family drama tells a fast-paced story of betrayal and a tragic accident. This is a must read if you love thrillers!
The Dilemma by B.A. Paris a suspenseful story that takes place over 24 hours. Adam and Livia are hosting a party for Livia's long planned 40th birthday. It is supposed to be like the wedding Livia never had, and she is hoping it is absolutely perfect. Adam is busy trying to make sure that everything is in place; the caterers, decorations, gift, and the surprise of their daughter, Marnie, coming in from Asia to surprise her mother. No one knows about Marnie's surprise except her father. As the day unfolds, the reader gets a glimpse into Livia's mind, as she grapples about having to tell Adam a secret that will shatter his world, but decides to wait until after the party. Adam is waiting to hear from Marnie about which flight she ends up making, and is panic stricken when there is a plane crash leaving from her connecting airport. As the party draws closer, Adam and Livia become increasingly anxious as they try to keep the other calm.
This book was not a thriller like I was expecting, but it is a raw look into one couple's relationship. Adam and Livia's relationship has been tested over the years, and this party comes at a time when they are truly happy. Neither wants to break that. I am giving 4 stars only because this book built up the suspense quite high, but it didn't really have the climax it should have. Otherwise, this book is genuine and well written. Thank you the NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy!

Let me start by saying that this was not a thriller. Let me second that by saying I still really enjoyed this book! There were still plot twists, but it was more of a family drama book than a domestic thriller. Because of that, I think this one is definitely different from B.A. Paris’ other books.
Some of the things I loved about this book were the pacing and the characters. THE DILEMMA alternates between the husband and wife’s point of view leading up to and shortly after the wife’s fortieth birthday party. Each character is struggling with their own secret and when to tell the other, but not wanting to ruin the party, which made this book much more of an emotional read than I was expecting, because I could definitely feel for both of the characters!
There wasn’t necessarily anything I didn’t like about the book, I just don’t think it is one that’s going to stick with me or one that I will remember six months from now.
