The Dilemma

B.A. Paris

I know I haven’t found a gripping book when it takes me 3 nights to read. I really like BA Paris as an author but this one has really failed to grip me and I have found it very slow.
The plot is believable and the characters are likeable but for me something was lacking with this book. ⭐️⭐️/5

I was pleasantly surprised by the way this story was told.
From the very beginning, it's practically spelled out that the bad thing happened - there's no mystery of who done it, or whatever. And yet, throughout the entire (slightly annoying and frustrating story) I was hooked to see what has actually happened.
I mean, it's another perfect on the surface, dysfunctional on the inside, family, so I was sold on that. And at times it really felt that all the drama was so easily preventable if people just asked each other "hey, you look upset - what's up?".
But I can see how being caught up in your own thoughts and assuming you are doing the right thing by not saying something or waiting to say something because you want to spare someone the worry is the right course of action.
So, I forgave the book some of the things that otherwise I wouldn't overlook.
However, it could have ended earlier. The last 20% were a bit dragged out and there was nothing to it. But, maybe it needed to be written for closure.

This should have been a short story. Don’t get me wrong, I love B.A. Paris and her talent to create suspense and to thrill, but this was such a bore. The story revolves around Livia who is obsessed with having the big 40th birthday as a compensation for the wedding she never had. Therefore, she keeps a big secret from her husband for 6 weeks so that her party won’t get ruined. Then something happens on the day of the party and the husband Adam keeps that from Livia... The problem could have been solved in 2 minutes, but no, we had to read pages and pages of indecisiveness and passivity. I cannot believe how Adam could go on without making a very crucial call to find out the truth. It took me ages to finish the book as I was really bored of this couple’s stupidity. Such a big disappointment.

BA PARIS I AM DISAPPOINTED. This book is absurdly drawn out & unnecessarily sad. Terrible. Maybe if it were 100 pages shorter and the character development was there it would’ve made it to 3 stars. Go take a nap instead it’ll be more rewarding.

This was good, suspenseful but different from her others. I had a hard time putting it down. I'll stop here so as to not spoil it for others! My 2nd favorite of B.A.,s books!

*Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for a E-copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion*

First off this book is different from B.A.Paris' other work! This is not a psychological thriller but exactly what the title says; it's one big 'Dilemma'.
This book follows Livia and her husband as they prepare for her 40th Birthday party. This party means everything to Livia, she has been planning it for 20 years! Yes YEARS!! After falling pregnant in her teens, her and Adam were rushed in to marriage and she never got the big white wedding that she felt she deserved. This 40th Birthday party is everything to Livia, it has been life consuming and she can't quite believe that it has finally arrived. Unfortunately, not everyone can attend her gathering but she is not going to stop her from having a great time.
Adam seems to be behaving weirdly at the party and she is wondering if he has found out the secret that she has been keeping from him and how it would destroy him. Adam is in turmoil as to tell Livia whats bothering him or should he tell her after the party, seeing as she has planned this for years and doesn't want to spoil her special day.
This is told from alternate views between Livia and Adam, it reminisces about the past and how they have come to be today, but also the scandal and secrets that build up to the party.
This book was compelling and frustrating at the same time. I was trying to put myself in Adam's shoes and I wouldn't know what to do either. It has some repetition to the book and doesn't have a major twist at the end but I will read anything that B.A Paris publishes.

This had such an intriguing premise, but I think it suffered from a failure of genre blending. I wasn't sure if it should be suspenseful or tragic, and ended up being neither. For something that should have been powerful, I was bored through most of it, and found it really repetitive.

Well, you know what is not good? Listening to such a book when PMS is your company in these days. I was bawling my eyes out probably for 50% of this book and I was holding on to hope till the last word.

This was different than what the author is usually writing, but I still enjoyed it. It was something different and yes, I was frustrated with the characters sometimes, because WHY DON'T YOU F**KING TALK...:D But I liked the story and the characters and I liked that I probably dehydrated myself today...:D

There is a big special 40th party planned for the wife as she didn't have the wedding day she wanted. Both partners have something to tell the other afterwards but dosent want to ruin the day as its been a long awaited party 20 years in the making.

Seriously the husband does my head it as to why he doesn't call sooner to know for sure either way....its all based over 24hrs.....it seems like a long 24hrs!!! Finished in one sitting as I had to know what happened and couldn't sleep
