The story sucked me in and would not let go. Ludlum's characters are realistic. They suffer mental and physical trauma that effects their performance unlike other thrillers. He understands the limitations we all have.
When Bourne is in action it is engrossing, other times sheer boredom
adventurous
I was disappointed to say the least. I read the majority of the reviews and after reading through the first 30% of the book I thought it may be better than what others were thinking. But once the last few chapters came around I wasn't wrapped around it so much that I couldn't put the book down. I was actually bored at times. This one just lacked the intense scenes that came from the first book to keep you enthralled to the end.
Long winding with multiple shifts un narratives. A simple premise twisting into full out potential catastrophe. Enjoyable yes but supreme eh
Its a heavy read in terms of size, number of lines per page and subject too.
But the writing style is significantly different from 21st century writers.

the writing between the first book and this one improves ten fold. I enjoyed this one so much more. the action sequences are expertly written as always and the dialogue, while still shaky in places, is much more realistic and truer to character. Ludlum is not always the best with his characters but I still grew to care for them all, new and old alike. it had me on the edge of my seat the way the first one never did. the amount of casual racism in this is definitely worth a mention (for the whole series I think) but felt more a sign of the times (this was published in the early 80's I think) than anything else.
