Absolutely wonderful! I'm not a reader , but when I came across this book. I was like I've got to read it. For me this book I can read it and picture everything in my head as to what it looks like, cause lucky for me .I grew up here in Wilkes, and I still live here. I spent most of my childhood growing up in Marovian Falls. So when Jesse is going down these back roads I can kinda figure out where she is in the story. Wilkes county is greatly known for the moonshine. It is also where NASCAR got started. Can't wait to find my next read from Donna Everhart!

I finished this book a few days ago but I keep thinking about it! I listened to the audiobook and it really pulled me in; I was carrying my phone around everywhere with me to keep listening to it. This was a fascinating story: the protagonist is a teenage girl from a family on the wrong side of the law. They have made moonshine for generations and throughout the book her feelings toward her family and her place within it, her obligations, and the family business evolve while she is also dealing with grief, questions about her past, and an eating disorder. Set in North Carolina in the 1960's- I'd recommend to fans of Where the Crawdads Sing and Call Your Daughter Home.

I hated how her family treated her, and it never did get any better. I also hated the ending. But, the story itself was good and made me emotional.
