In the four years since I first tried to tackle this book, I've finally grown enough to appreciate it. That appreciation has its limits—I remain unconvinced by the basic rhetorical stance—but, oddly, Althaus-Reid makes more sense to me now as a church theologian than I'd ever have expected. I could easily pillage her hermeneutics for an adventurous church Bible study: Why not ask a congregation, Where do you most recognize God in Sodom? (If it's not in the fire-and-brimstone guy upstairs, say so!) I'm not sure I follow every turn of her theological method, quite, but there's something real here that will repay revisitation. That's more than I can say of most theology out there.
