Excellent! The prequel that leaves you fulfilled. The love affair that started it all. Great storyline.

I read this book first before Bad men wicked women. This book was good I have always been EJD fan. He did not disappoint with this one. I have never hated a character in a book more the. I hated Jimmi Lee. This books showed some of the relationship between African and African-Americans can’t wait to read the next one

Turning book into a DNF at 28% While I definitely see what Eric was trying to do with this book (bring awareness of the different experiences of blacks and Africans across the diaspora)... this book is just... too much. And not in the way that I don’t mind a good sex scene when the story calls for it, but this book 10% meat and 90% sex. Corny sex at that. LA natives will recognize a lot in this book as well.

I may need to read the sequel - recognising I read the prequel 1st (apparently these were written out of order). This was not my fav EJD read. Definitely filled with a lot of passion. I did not know prior to reading it the story continues in Bad Men and Wicked Women. I wasn’t prepared to continue reading but I’m hopeful the next book will bridge the gaps. The rapid fire dialogue makes it a quick read. The complex race & classism topics presented and discussed between the characters are interesting. I’m interested to know what happens next, so I’ll be reading the sequel.

Wonderfully written prequel to Bad Men, Wicked Women, where the characters were so complex and amazingly flawed. that you couldn't help but connect to them on a more cellular level. For anyone who reads this before reading Bad Men, Wicked Women, there will be no drop off to how things flow with the characters, both in their pasts and present.

dnf @ page 21 (Large Print Version) I actually cannot do this rn.

“…hollered at a few honeys from the car,…”
catcalling? seriously? ew
“Men grabbed their dicks if they loved hip-hop and women rubbed their tits if they loved Big Poppa.”
This sentence alone made me so uncomfortable?? like I feel like it could’ve been worded in a better way because honestly I get people LOVING certain music but what the actual hell? This visual is gross.
“I never understood this life. It was a spot where liberals and freaks went to prove how liberal and freaky they were by having a bathroom fling or a ten-minute parking-lot rendezvous with someone from another culture, and some performed as strangers watched the show. There was plenty of girl-on-girl action in the stalls. Hollywood men were in back seats of luxury cars giving other Hollywood men brain too.”

“White shirt skirt, red high heels, the right amount of cleavage given up by her red blouse.”

THE RIGHT AMOUNT??? WHATS THE WRONG AMOUNT?? why do men
“Yeah. There is a problem. A big problem. You’re with my girl.”
This would’ve been so girlboss of him if he hadn’t said this to her ACTUAL boyfriend. lmaoooo. okay context: They’re in a club. He spots her and she has this guy next to her holding her hand or something. He goes up to her says hi, and the bf is confused, and asks what’s going on. Then he asks if there’s a problem and yeah. That’s where we’re at. ^
“And at the same time, that miniskirt and cleavage let me know she was all cayenne and honey, maybe more fire than sweetness.”
And maybe, women don’t get dressed thinking about what a man’s reaction to their outfit is going to be. LOL. ANYWAYS

i just can’t do this rn, it’s dnf season and I don’t have the energy to keep reading this. I’m returning it to the library asap.
