Idk the book was good but bad lol. The writing was poignant and I don’t love time jumps but this one was very well done. (But we really did not at all need Claire’s pov )
The best way to describe this is, the fault in our stars was sad on purpose while a walk to remember was a story with sadness. And idk this book felt like it was sad on purpose.
We don’t really get to know Bahman nor Roya’s full personality. They just had a young love but there wasn’t much depth to their characters nor their relationship outside of the missed factor.
I also think this book is actually about Bahman’s mom and her life more than anyone else to be honest and it could be a good thing if they gave her character a LITTLE bit more depth.
If you hate miscommunication this is basically a back and forth novel with a purposeful and manipulative miscommunication.

Lovely romance. I really rooted for the characters, but the true stand-out was the food descriptions. Checking out local Iranian food options!!

kinda late thoughts but i remember really liking this book. i am a sucker for the regrets/missed opportunities theme that is central to this book. i wish it hit a little bit deeper but that's okay because the writing was good - i loved the setting of the stationery shop itself and the image i had in my head of it - full of ornate wood shelves, jewel tones, fountain pens, poetry books, etc. ugh. so beautiful. also the political context of Iran in the 1950s was really interesting (the Shah, coup, international relations and Iranian sentiment towards the US) and i wish it had a bit more focus on that actually.
i don't really love the idea of two big loves - one for passion/romance and one for comfort/safety. i truly think that both can be found in one, but i've noticed this kind of a lot, especially with love triangles (which thank god, this wasn't). the end was a liiiiiiittle cheesy and unrealistic, but yeah yeah it's fiction so whatever. i still liked the ending for the most part. there were many lines i liked but i'm too lazy to add them!

Lovely writing, engaging storyline and characters. Found the setting eerily relevant to current events and helped me think about how politics impact individuals, even down to who you marry.
