was not expecting to like this as much as i did. it is still not my genre per se and 3 books in i have noticed quinn's habit of repeating descriptions -making the banality (or rather: whiteness) of the characters' appearances distracting at times - as well as repeated sentences that leave one with a sense of deja vu. however, the leads are so hopelessly loveable - sophie especially so - and the book is full of heart at every turn.

Almost an update on the Cinderella story, the book considers class differences and underscores just how powerless women of that time actually were.
