There was NO plot progression, no clear ending. The ending was… I’m not even sure what.
For most of the book I liked that I could relate to how it felt inside her brain.

But it lost me the last 60 ish pages.

Also the mom is AWFUL, and the sisters sit there trying so hard to impress her and excusing her but she’s SO terrible to them. I couldn’t even understand that their parents were still together until Thanksgiving.

Side note: Jules obsession with the Instagram “mommies” was irksome as hell.

This was peak streak of consciousness writing, and the author is either an expert in anxiety or has it. The spiraling and anxiety attacks that Jules and Poppy would have were so real. In fact, the worrying that happened made ME worry and gave me anxiety.

As an older sister, I felt Jule's struggle between wanting to please her impossible mother and also take care of her sister. It was a very real situation for many. I'd be interested to see where the author is in birth order.

The ending of this was SUDDEN. I was stunned that it just... ended. There was no real conclusion or wrap up to any plot point. I was floored that it was just over out of no where. A fairly gruesome event happened and then... done.

No plot in sight but what a darkly fun time. An intriguing look at messy women trying to survive messy family dynamics, depression, and just trying to find a sliver of happiness
