Very sharp — I actually enjoyed the author's sense of humor and writing style. I think *most* people can see themselves in both Jules & Poppy, at least I really did, and I love that feeling when I'm reading a book.

Ending was a bit eh. I understand the point, I guess, but it really knocked this book down in terms of how much I liked it overall.

Overall I cannot wait to read more from Alexandra Tanner —

TW for talk of animal cruelty and some pretty dark descriptors of animal violence making random appearances throughout the book.

Incredibly sharp. I loved the author's sense of humor and the way the book was able to balance the absurdity and tragedy of how messed up these two women are. The depictions of parental emotional abuse were way more real than I was expecting, so keep that in mind if you think that might trigger you.

My thoughts the first half: “this is funny and she really gets sister relationships!”

My thoughts the second half: “Christ there’s literally no plot and no progression, these characters are gonna keep on doing the same shit forever.”

Honestly considering removing a full star for the god awful depressing what the fuck just happened ending. Like there wasn’t even any meaning in it stopping short and traumatically.

no plot, which sometimes i like, but the characters and relationships also didn’t really seem to go anywhere. the toxic dynamic of the sisters was interesting at first but becomes a bit same-y after a while and they don’t seem to grow or ever learn anything. there are some good bits where the characters feel very real, but they’re also kind of insufferable. it felt like the book was trying to be funny in an ironic way but it was mostly…not funny. i thought she was at least going to delete instagram at the end but alas
