I always love a ruined dinner party and a pair of crazy sisters so this is already a winner.

Maybe its me, but right now this book feels like a funhouse mirror, and the game is to guess which parts of the characters I see in myself accurately. There's Poppy, who dreams and seeks connection but is hyper-critical and too individualist to take steps. There's Jules, who is ironic and funny but so out of touch with ambition that she hates seeing it in others and only gets satisfaction from being right and cutting people off. Both sisters are incredibly real and piss me off to no end.

I think I wanted a little more closure (at the end) and balance (throughout) from the story. Every repair was undone so fast that I couldn't see whether it was the 'angel of peace' or 'chaos' welcomed in. I wanted more moments where they fed each others spark, instead of burning each other out.

I think I still loved the subtlety- the characters are so mean and numb and I still wanted the best for them. For that same reason, this book isn't for everyone.

OK I changed this from a 2 to a 3 because I actually did like some aspects of the character relationships and related to some moments of these characters. But also - wtf was the point of that whole book?

I wasn't enjoying it at all, and finally let myself give up halfway through.

I just could not get into the characters and the story - it was too anxiety filled to be enjoyable as someone with anxiety

It was fine. The raw and abrasively needy dynamic between sisters was the most compelling part.
