Dense, fascinating and written with obvious passion. A bit overlong for my taste, but  well-argued and researched with copious documentation. The overall effect was to made the author's point about Ancient India's impact on the world - then and now, from Angkor Wat to Al-Kwhwarizmi, from chess to clocks and from madrasas to matriculation.

Great scholarship - almost a 100 pages of footnotes - and a beautifully presented book, almost a work of art from a man who clearly loves the culture, history and people of India. There’s lots to learn here - why do we not appreciate how India was the original home of the numerals he describes as the only universal language  we have for example - but at times I found the case a little too forced, by the time the Christian Spanish take Toledo I thought we had started a long way from the central thesis.
