Reread review: DNF at 10%

I want to like Adrienne young’s books SO badly. She’s such a cool person and they always have such epic premises. But goodness, the execution of this one was painful. I’ve read it before and remember semi liking it, but I will not be finishing the reread.

This is a book about Vikings and our MC sees her dead brother fighting alongside their clan's enemies. She is kidnapped and faced with the fact that things are not as black and white as her clan always taught her.

This book was just OK for me. It is a very good book for YA readers who want to get into fantasy, but it was super predictable and I really didn't care about any of the characters.

This also was one amazing one day read. So easy to get through, fast-paced, easy to understand for non-native English speakers. I really enjoyed it.

It was also my first viking themed book and I really liked how it all played out. Everything was easily understandable.

So I read this book in 2 days because that’s how I am lol but I had a hard time putting this book down!

I thought that the language was beautiful and the battle scenes in particular were very vivid. There are particular lines that hit like a punch to the gut, which is what I love in a book! The characters are relatable and well-developed, and you find yourself rooting for more than one at multiple points in the novel. The emotional tension is strong here!

One thing I will note: while the battle scenes are sharp and descriptive, the other scenes feel like they are often cut short. There were a lot of times where I wanted more, and it was sometimes frustrating, which kept it from being a 5 for me.

If you’re a fan of enemies to lovers, this is a great book for you! I know I am and I loved it!

WOW.
