Very nice book. I love the plot, even though I’m not big on fantasy books, I really liked this one though. I also really liked the characters and their relationships with each other & the character development.  The book has some plot twists which makes it very easy to keep on reading.

This book made me question why I fell in love with reading as a little girl. I read it once, literally skipped the middle out of boredom and frustration, continued from the point where Violet gets her dragons, and yet still managed to comprehend the plot by the end of the book despite skipping over 100 pages. This tells me there's a problem with the book and that the writer can't write.

A mix of hunger games and got. This was one of my favourite love stories I've ever read. Violet's character development is strong but you can still see her failing, making mistakes, learning from them. I very much enjoyed her not being the perfect heroine by the end of the book, but you know that she tries everything in her possibilities to protect the ones she loves.
But I must admit that it was hard for me to follow the war scenes.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, along for the adventure, and craving more!

Rebecca Yarros definitely knows how to build tension, and how to pull off epic plot twists. As an author she balances the emotions, physicality, characters, and dialogue of flirty and spicy scenes in a way that is refreshing and compliments the story overall.

The overall plot of the story was well crafted, with plot clues in just the right places to be noticed but not obvious. Main characters were expertly written, I just wish we had a little more development in the supporting characters.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️ (the build up is 🔥🥵)

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. I thought the story pacing was really good, the characters were really interesting, and the world was pretty well built. I do think the romance was a little faster than it maybe needed to be (especially if this is a 4+ book series), but it also didn't bother me too much in this situation. I thought it mostly worked for the characters, though a slightly slower burn would have been even more delicious as a reader. I was refreshed by the FMC, while she made some decisions that made me shake my head, she also made good decisions. She felt like a more real person, sometimes doing the thing I wanted her to and other times not.

I have a lot of thoughts about this. For me, the only positives I personally have is 1) Liam is the absolute best character, no notes except he didn't deserve that one scene, 2) the dragons
talking to one another
is everything, 3)
Xaden's pov is honestly kinda sweet and made me hate the romance portion a little less
. Now what I couldn't stand the most: this is not enemies to lovers in any way. This is 100% a forbidden romance. If you enjoy this book, good for you. Not my cup of tea but I enjoyed it more than ACOTAR. Also to note, I loathe Violet's inner thoughts. Especially in regards to Xaden, she just reminds me of a horny teenage and she really can't respect his boundaries in the beginning/middle of the book which threw me away from supporting them as a couple.
