I love the way the author set up this book. She traced Thoreau's trip as closely as she could using her car (as much of the train route either no longer exists or exists only for freight use). In addition to visiting those sites Thoreau visited that are still with us today, she describes how those places have changed. Skillfully woven in are Thoreau's own observations from the trip. If you have read about HDT's other travels and have left this sojourn off your itinerary, you'd do well to take this midwestern swing. Bravo!
