A blessedly quick read. I struggled to like any of our characters…except for True. He’s nice. Felt like the entire plot consisted of waiting and waiting and then very little actually happened. Turns out, talking to solve your problems is good in real life but very boring in a book. And there were no mermaid style sirens. Just very convincing talkers called sirens. Meh book overall.

This is a good YA Dystopian/ish book. Well written, great characters. Never underestimate the power of one's voice.

I was able to listen to this book in almost one stretch and I think that helped a lot. I don't think I would have really been able to stay interested in it if I kept starting and stopping like I usually read a book. The world Condie created is interesting and she does a good job of spending enough time defining the world to make it unique without falling into the trap of spending half the book world building and forgetting to tell a good story. Unfortunately the world and the story, though on the surface are satisfying, provide little to really get attached to or make you love the characters. For example, one of the critical story elements was the sirens, but I don't really feel like Condie took full advantage of that and it ended up being more of a way to make Rio special.

In a nutshell: I wasn't bored, but I can't summon any enthusiasm to recommend this book to people.

Excellent quick read. I read this book in one setting and enjoyed every minute of it. This book is not violent or "action-packed" but there is love, betrayl, deceit, and mysteries. The plot keeps you guessing and you have to keep reading until you get all the answers. I loved ally's matched series as well. I can't wait for her next book.

"To save humanity, they built Atlantia. Many chose to stay above so their loved ones could live below"

Hey guys, so I finished Atlantia by Ally Condie. It was alright. It had a nice enough storyline. It had your typical twists and turns and secrets and deceptions. SO many secrets, gods, I couldnt keep track. It almost had the aura of a mystery novel, attempting to figure out the why to so many things. I liked the build up, set up to all the mysteries, however, I do feel as if the revelations to those fell flat. They were suppose to be this big deal, and just like that, they arent. It kind of took the momentum out of everything. And the pacing of the events of the novel were okay, however, I do feel as if the last 25% of the novel kind of dragged. The end was just kind of meh. But I have to admit, I sort of started to lose interest after her big plan did not go to plan. I mean, I knew it kind of wouldn't. But the novel took a turn that I just was not a big fan of and it went downhill from there. Up until that point, I liked how the MC was smart enough to do all these things in order to reach her goal. I liked how determined she was. She had a mind for one thing, and one thing only, her sister. And because of that mindset, I do feel as if the added romance to this novel was not what it could have been. All I felt between the two of them was friendship and trust. That's pretty much it. No chemistry really...He helped her, she helped him. They had secrets, they shared secrets. That's about it. This is just my opinion though, take it for what it is worth. Please, feel free to read this book and give your own opinion. Of course, I also liked a few other things in this novel. Like, the world was kind of interesting, even if it was a bit overexplained. I got it without all the frilly and extra details. The history of the world would have suited just fine. I also liked the big secret that the MC had to deal with on a daily basis. And how difficult it was to keep that secret maintained until she couldnt any longer. I do not think I would have been strong enough to resist not spilling the secret. I mean, there were so many times that it was just so tempting to unleash the secret. I do not know how she held on for so long. Gods. The last thing I truly enjoyed about this novel was Maire. She was just so strange and dark and twisted and I loved her. You never knew what she was going to say or do next. Nor did you know if what she said was just a bunch of lies, or the truth. She was both deceptive and honest, a hard balance to maintain. So yeah, I liked her. The guy, the love interest, I liked him generally as a character, but not as the love interest. I liked the main character alright. I liked the storyline well enough. It was just a nice book. That's all I can really say. Okay, so as always, if you guys have any questions or comments, drop em below. Till next time. Bye.

I loved the Matched trilogy so much I jumped at the first chance I got to read this book. I wasn't super impressed. I felt that it was kind of boring for my taste. In the beginning not much was happening. Towards the end it definitely got better but this was just not a favorite for me.

Overall I enjoyed the book (that is to say, I didn't stop reading it halfway, so, ya' know...)
I found that the tension was forced. Rio constantly had conflicting emotions and thoughts (which was aggravating). I found myself asking "So What?" on more than one occasion to "dramatic" scenes. I could tell a buildup of tension was attempted, but failed spectacularly in my eyes. The climax made me shrug and say "meh". Granted, I really did like the concept of the book, I just found that the writing fell flat for me.
And I'm sure there is more, but I'm not in the mood to write more than this right now.

I liked the history of the sirens, but everything else was boring and slow as hell.
