Short, simple story.
Definitely a product of the time.
The "mystery" was kind of spoiled by the title??
Weird amount of time spent describing the routes Nancy took when driving.
Did not like that everyone who was good was attractive, everyone who was bad was ugly.

I'm sure I read a least a few Nancy Drew books when I was younger but that was so long ago I don't remember much about them so it was very enjoyable to get stuck in to reading (re-reading?) these.  This is definitely in the cozy mystery category following Nancy Drew and she gets herself embroiled in the hunt for a missing will against some unpleasant relatives who took a sudden interest in one of their elderly relatives.  There is a Midsomer Murder-esque feels to things, without the murder part, as Nancy gets about town, makes many a new friend and aquaintence and works hard to solve the mystery before its too late.  I'm not sure if modern policing would allow such civilian action and her father seems very much unconcerned about the trouble she gets herself in but it all seems to work nicely together.

Good mystery. Idk that's it.

I read this book for the 2023 Summer bookworm bucket list bingo challenge. Put on by @theocbookgirl. Theme- re-read a childhood favorite.

When I saw that Laura Linney reads this audiobook, I was hooked.

I started reading mysteries at a young age. My first book/series was The Bobssey Twins. I later moved on to Nancy drew.

One thing that I found interesting, listening to the story this time around was that Nancy was very successful at her sleuthing, and I wondered if it had something to do with her economic status. Her father is a successful lawyer. She has her own car, which is very nice as a high school student . The Drew’s have their own live in help.

However, she does the right thing. She’s brave and courageous and helps out her community in fighting the bad guys. I would highly recommend this listen for elementary and middle grade age students. I really enjoyed the musical additions to the audiobook -reminded me of a stage play.

Loved this walk down memory lane! I haven't read this since the 4th grade, and it was fun to revisit.

3.5

As far as mysteries go, it's not that bad. In fact its setup is similar to most Scooby Doo plots, just without the monsters. Unlike Scooby Doo, the characters are a little bland, which is frustrating since there are many directions they could go with each characters background. It's also kind of weird how Nancy's dad is perfectly okay with her getting her life in danger, (FATHER OF THE YEAR!) despite the fact that Nancy has given zero evidence of her being trained on detective work. This is a 100 book series and I'm not going to make that commitment. I'll read the next one though.
