Nancy Drew books were the first book that I've ever read. My love of mystery came from it. But as a child I've only read those which were in my school library, so I've decided to read it again and this time serial wise.
I've read many Nancy Drew books but never in order, some are left too.
This no. #1 was one of them which I've never read before and honestly I really like it after reading it, feels like nostalgia.

I loved this book as a child and decided to reread it. It definitely didn’t disappoint! I love the simplicity and comfort it brought me along with the good old fashion mystery. Nancy Drew will always be my number one sleuth!

You know what they always say - you're never too old for your first Nancy Drew.

Ok. Maybe "they" is just I and "always" is this one time but nonetheless . . . this was my first Nancy Drew book. I shamelessly play and adore the Nancy Drew games on the PC, so I figured it was high time I read one of the books.

I'll admit that I was having a hard time getting past all the remarks about appearance. Just a couple examples out of the numerous times looks were brought up:

'Why, Helen Corning!' exclaimed Nancy, as a slim, attractive school friend of hers ran up.

or

Ada tossed her head and her eyes flashed angrily. This did nothing to improve her looks. In spite of the expensive clothes she wore, Ada was not attractive. She was very thin and sallow, with an expression of petulance. Now that her face was distorted in anger, she was almost ugly.

But this is an old book, so I decided to (mostly) ignore this. Afterall, this is a lovely tale for young readers about . . .uh . . . well . . . an estate and a will. Uhm. Ok.

So, Uncle Moneybags, who is not an actual uncle to most of the people in this story who call him such, dies and has a will showing all his money going to one rotten family. The problem? Before his death, he was promising money to a whole handful of people who actually "deserve" his money and not these yahoos.

A bit tacky to be strutting around telling everyone they'll be able to go on vacations and take singing lessons and have food in their cupboards once you die? Yes.

Ignore that and move on? Also yes.

Well, why did Uncle Moneybags change his mind and give all his money to that rotten family instead of the good people he had assured were getting his moolah when he bit the dust? Was the will used the final will or was there a second will that should have been the real final one?

DUN. DUN. DUN.

That's what ol' attractive Nancy Drew is going to find out with the help of her attorney father and the good local people who don't know how to keep secrets. Is she going to put herself in dangerous and potentially illegal situations to find out? Yes, but who cares? She's Nancy Drew. And she's attractive!

This was by no means a twisty, perched-on-the-edge-of-the-seat mystery, but it was pretty fun. Nancy manages to not be annoying, the pace is great with something always happening, and while the mystery isn't really a mystery (good lord, don't look at the cover or the title

This is where it all started...

I grew up on Nancy Drew. Time hasn't changed a thing.
Nancy Drew notes offhandedly,
"It was sweet of Dad to give me this car (a new, dark-blue convertible) for my birthday."
And it just gets better from there. :)

An intriguing look into Nancy’s start as a detective and how she came to find herself a detective at all.
