My first mystery book. LOVE LOVE LOVED Nancy Drew and I was fortunate enough to have all of her books growing up. Back then I so so wished something exciting would happen to me... just like Nancy... and just like her I'd solve the mystery :)

3.5 Holds up better than I thought it would and encouraged the kid to be a detective.

Such a good mystery. Nancy Drew is fast-paced, nostalgics, and I wish I were her!
I read this for the second time in one day!

The Secret of the Old Clock is the very first Nancy Drew book. In a time where teenage girls immediately made friends with strange old people and entered their homes without warning, Nancy meets several people who have one man in common: Josiah Crowley. How she happened upon all of these people at the same time, we don't know, but I guess it was convenient to move the story along. Crowley apparently promised to leave everyone money in his will, but everything went to the uppity Topham family and they're all confused. Apparently he's got a secret will hidden away and Nancy's got to find it. Sometimes the mysteries in this series are a little ridiculous and this is one of them. These books really don't hold up over time.
mysterious

Always a good read!

The first book in the Nancy Drew series, I am quite happy to restart this series and experience the childhood mysteries again. I remember loving these books as a kid, they are never disappointing. It's also great to read these from a cynical mindset because Nancy could have died multiple times already. In the years to come, I will try to read more from this series
adventurous medium-paced

i remember reading these books as a child and they seemed so tense and mysterious but now as an adult they're very mid

In many ways, this was more interesting as historical fiction than as a mystery. The mystery didn’t really grab me, but seeing snapshots of the time period and social class that Nancy Drew lived in was fascinating. And I have to say, I was impressed with her courage and level-headedness.

I listened on audiobook and the recording was perfectly fine, though nothing special.
