The whole thing is worth reading for lulz. It's so rose-tinted to the point of feeling artificial. Nancy Drew is basically Crime-Solving Barbie. Happy endings all around.

Aren't the Topmans going to contest though that the notebook was obtained through illegal means? Or in this era, Nancy's "gee officer, I was just looking at it and couldn't put it back before getting caught" story hold up?

I know I read every single Nancy Drew mystery I could get my grubby little mitts on back in the 4th grade. And I'm really glad I don't remember much of any of them-- it's been a long time and they all run together. So when I read this with my girls (3rd and 1st grade now), it was their first foray into traditional, formulaic mystery. Read one or two chapters at a time, we weathered a few twists and turns. Near the end, though, I think they were deliberately suspending disbelief just to make the story more meaningful. They ended on not being too anxious to read the next in the series, so I'm giving it three stars for content, one for making good memories.

I loved the Nancy Drew books growing up. The idea of a young girl being able to solve mysteries was so exciting. I was always interested in mystery stories, and the idea of being a detective or spy growing up.

As a child, Nancy Drew was my hero. I just could not get enough of her book series (this one and the many others that popped up like the Nancy Drew Files) and feverishly collected the ones that were missing from my collection. I recently saw an article about the 80th anniversary of the books and it piqued my interest in the series - I can't remember the last time I would have picked up a Nancy Drew, but it's probably close to 20 years! So I put a hold on the ebook from the library and waited eagerly for it to be mine. I read the entirety of it in about an hour and a half and enjoyed every minute of it! Was it cheesy? Of course - it's aimed to a younger audience but it was a quick and nostalgic read. I found myself smiling at some of the dialogue and at how quickly Nancy's claims were accepted by the police, but overall, I very much enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Nancy was a great role model when I was younger, and it kind of felt like meeting up with an old friend...I certainly plan on picking up the next few in the series somewhere down the line!
