I'm rereading some of my favorite Nancy Drew books for a panel that I'm on at the Malice Domestic conference. I haven't read this one since 1977. Lots of memories. The girl sleuth inspired my love of mysteries.
*3.5
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery book. I’m such a big fan of the Nancy Drew Diaries and the Nancy Drew Files, and although I can’t say that I like this as much as those ones, I still did really like it. I also understand that this was the first Nancy Drew book to be ever published, so I think that it was a solid start to the wild journey, although a bit boring at times for me personally. However I really enjoyed the father-daughter relationship and the characters of Grace and Allison.

Simple, but enjoyable! Easy mystery and not many stand out characters, but I enjoyed the sweet small town atmosphere :)

When I Was In 5th Grade I Went To My School Library On A Sunny Friday Morning And I Perused Through The Shelves To See What I Could Find I Wanted To Read A Chapter Book So I Asked My Librarian For Help Finding A Chapter Book She Suggested I Read Nancy Drew : The Secret Of The Old Clock By Carolyn Keene I Took It Home And Read It That Day And I Was Invested In The Book I Could Not Put It Down And For Being In 5th Grade I Did Not Know If I Was Going To Understand It Or Not But I Did I Loved The Mystery Aspect Of The Book It Was So Gripping And Fun I Wanted To Know More So That Next Week I Took Out Books 1-18 Because Those Were The Only Ones They Had In The Library At The Time And I Blew Through Those As Well And Then The Week After I Took Out More Of The Nancy Drew Books And I Loved Them All I Even Dressed Up As Nancy Drew For Halloween 2 Years In A Row !!! My Librarian Was Surprised To See Me Dressed As Nancy Drew One Halloween And I Also Watch The 2007 Movie Version And Currently Watching The Show On The CW
So Yeah I Loved These Books As A Child And I Will Hopefully Re-Read Them Soon

Charming from beginning to end.
I'm starting a Nancy Drew movie and TV show kick and thought that I should read at least the first novel before watching any adaptations. My wife has always been a big fan of the book series and I always have a bunch of questions for her when we watch an onscreen version, so I wanted firsthand familiarity with Nancy and her friends before diving into my project.
Outside of her dad, Nancy's supporting cast doesn't yet appear yet in The Secret of the Old Clock, but that didn't lessen my enjoyment at all. In fact, I loved watching Nancy completely solo on a case, driven by her compassion for people and aided by her considerable wits.
I wasn't planning to immediately read more of the series, but this was such a quick, enjoyable read that I'm going to sneak other volumes into my other reading right away.
