Very accessible and helpful for me. Kind of a lot of editing errors (translation errors?) but it wasn’t that big an issue. Recommended!

Very well organized by topic, full of sources and fact checking, provides the appropriate context for debunking some of Zionism’s most common claims, and it was written by an Israeli, which might help in getting some of my more prejudiced family members to actually consume books on this subject

This book first appeared in 2017 but was published again in 2024 after the genocidal attack on Gaza by the Israeli army, and this is very necessary. The mores have fundamentally changed, it is clear for all to see. Atrocities, war crimes and the unravelling of international rules are no longer criticized by mainstream policymakers, and in many cases even condoned by the powers that be.

The few remaining norms of an enlightned western civilization have now disappeared, only to be replaced by some kind of bronze age ethics based on biblical retribution and 'might makes right'. That makes the reappearance of this book extremely timely. And with Pappe, you know what you get: an unflinching critique of Israel's occupation of Palestine, and even its raison d'être.

He does not disappoint. He dispels ten myths about the origins, identity and politics of Israel, revealing it as the colonial settler state it really is. As the book is written for a large audience, the narratives are concise, clear and quick to absorb. This is indispendable reading for anyone speaking personally or professionally with ideological conservatives or adherents of both sideism, even if the latter are few and far between after Israels unspeakable rampage in Gaza.

“Their governments were no less responsible than Israel for the past, present, and future catastrophes of the Palestinian people.”

Despite being written in 2017, everything in this book is relevant now.

Ten Myths About Israel is a must read for anyone who wants to get a good grasp on what the very existence of Israel means for Palestine and the Palestinians, especially in the aftermath of the ceasefire and Trump’s comments about the ideas he has for the Gaza Strip. Ilan Pappe covered ten myths that built the West’s understanding of Palestine and dismantled each chapter dedicated to it, all in the order of the events that led to the colonization and ethnic cleansing of Palestine. It’s crucial that we are all aware of what’s at the root of this “conflict” and begin taking the necessary steps to ensure a free Palestine, from the river to the sea.

easy to read, and very informative about the history of palestine, its colonization, and the palestinian genocide. the book addresses a lot of the common zionist talking points (which actually happen to be myths).
