Goes in-depth into the history, and very informative.
It is written at what I would describe as quite a high-level, so potentially inaccessible to some, but an important investigation into the background of one of the most pressing and controversial issues of our time.

Super helpful read if you are looking for a concise background on Palestine and Israel. I am glad I read this as there were a lot of things I learned.

I feel like I’ve always been an anti-Zionist and that’s how my parents gently raised me. But I could never really describe why or give any sort of academic description of my beliefs. I feel like this book really helped me get that good background! It took me so long to read just because things kept getting in the way. Reading the second half of it after reading all of these grad school books was way easier than reading the first half after having taken such a long break from non fiction.

Perhaps my favorite of Pappe’s works this book is concise, accessible, and most importantly incredibly informative. Much of the book educated me about the history of Palestine, and particularly Israeli crimes and Palestinian resistance in the years leading directly to the current genocide in Gaza. I not only encourage people to read this book if they want to learn more, and it never is too late to learn more about anything, but to continue educating themselves about Palestine. The worst thing about this book was how prophetic it was, especially the last chapter about Gaza with Pappe declaring Israel’s treatment of Gaza pre-2023 a genocide.
