The coming together of the Sith, Jedi, Republic and Empire along with a Mandalorian to eliminate a new threat is great.

I have found most Star Wars books to be pretty so-so. This one fits right in.

This was a fun, fast read I would heartily recommend to any fans of the SWTOR games. The characters are colorful, the expansion of the war is interesting, and there are even a few truly emotional moments. You never quite forget that this is a video game tie-in novel (though I am not sure where exactly it ties in as the events are hardly mentioned in the game) but it's a good way to spend a little more exploring a galaxy far, far away.

I'm a huge fan of The Old Republic game so I was very excited to read this book. Sadly, I felt like it captured the worst parts of the game instead. The whole mess where there are Jedi, Sith, Republic, Empire, Mandalore, etc. all coexisting gets a little overwhelming. I didn't mind following the perspective of multiple characters, as they were all fine. But the author sacrificed a chance to deeply investigate the emotions of certain characters by adding in so many people to keep track of. This was an average book at best, with a few glimmers of interesting action.

Satele Shan was my favorite character by far, maybe because I'm attached to her from the Jedi story-line from the game. I also enjoyed the Sith Apprentice introduced in this novel. Her arc gave her room to grow outside of the immediate threats presented during the plot.

This book was written in a very straightforward style, without visuals that I felt were necessary. The galaxy far far away is full of opportunity to create, but you have to give the reader copious detail for them to connect with the world as they do with ones presented in the films or games. Fatal Alliance was lacking in this department. I'm not giving up hope on The Old Republic novels just yet, but this one certainly didn't leave me wanting more.
