This book feels like a promising first draft— desperately in need of some editing. The characters are obnoxious. Too many things are hinted at but not explained, while other things are TOO detailed. I was disappointed.

Standard horror movie setup (5 twenty-somethings with interpersonal drama go to a haunted house), in a great atmospheric setting, with a focus on detailed imagery and character descriptions over action. Decent scene and character setup at the start, evocative imagery but far too much purple prose and arguing, a few excellent spooky moments, a fantastic genre savvy line, and action that stalled out as soon as it started. Audiobook has incorrect Japanese pronunciations, which may be mostly intentional.

The visuals were so perfectly horror-esque. Elegant but dirty and got under your skin.

Well written. Morally grey characters. Not much to them but I didn’t mind. Toxic friendships/relationships. Drama and deception. Interesting ending but felt like it needed more to it. A glossary for the terms would have been nice too lol.

I enjoyed this book until I read further and further… The author filled the pages with mind numbing descriptions, trying to be original, but it left sections being very long winded in their aim to be unique.

The plot seems to ramp up very quickly but becomes difficult to keep up with; jumping from one scenario to another. 

It was an alright ghost story but it just lacked certain elements to be a very good one.

If your looking for a quick read that is horror tense and dark with Allitle bit of character drama than this is the book for you. It is very fast paced, not boring. I feel like the story could have been drawn out more and with way more detail and more explanation. But overall an interesting read. 😁
