Finally gave this a read after owning it for a few years and never touching it.
I started watching the anime years ago and gave up a few episodes in, but after reading the first volume I might rewatch it just because it's so good! I love the art style, and the characters are really interesting. Can't wait to read more!

Amazing first volume that makes you question your morality and who you are rooting for. The game of cat and mouse between the main characters is well plotted and gripping. Can't wait to see what the rest of the series and the anime adaptation has in store for me.
My first proper adventure into reading Manga as part of the #GettingGraphic readalong and I have to say although it starts off quite cheesy I did find myself enjoying the sinister undertones and the fun manoeuvring that the main characters had to do by the end.
We follow a young boy called Light who finds a DeathNote notebook. When he writes in a person's name whilst picturing them he can write out their death and cause it to happen. This turn of events allows Light to do a cleanse of the world's criminals, but it also alerts the authorities to someone killing these criminals, so Light has to hide his tracks...
Overall it's a fairly standard art style and it's a fun story but it didn't quite wow me. I would like to keep reading to find out more, but I;m not yet fully hooked in. 3.5*s overall.

The first manga I read, it's definitely getting used to but it helps alot that I watched the anime before.
This was my first sortie into the world of Manga and I really enjoyed it.
'Death Note' has an interesting premise that's well realised, and a standout pace that kept me from putting it down. Despite taking on some dark & hard-hitting themes - including justice, misguided morality, disillusionment, the death penalty & the lure and corruption of power - it is peppered here & there with humour and overall it didn't feel too heavy. It featured a couple of good twists and the characters (particularly Light) were quite complex. I was impressed with how obstacles were addressed by the characters, and the intricacy of some of the finer plot details.
My only criticism relates to the odd decisions made by a couple of the characters, which felt a bit too convenient for the sake of the plot. But beyond that I really couldn't fault it and I'll be picking up the next volume without a doubt.
