Rubbish, but passable company for my insomnia I guess.
Who would send a 3-year-old to boarding school??? This dad sucks and this headmistress is a fool.

I'm never especially clear on whether a young lady in a 1900 girls school novel is meant to be demure, well behaved, rule following, educated (in the right subjects of course) OR rambunctious, constantly pulling pranks, always in trouble, really mean to people but quick to apologize and generally constantly in danger of being expelled. The second one there is always the "beloved" of the school for some reason, despite the fact that she's constantly in trouble with the head mistress and saying horrible shit to other students (who excuse it because she doesn't really mean what she's saying), usually a pretty poor student who can't concentrate or speak French, a sloppy in her attire.

That's the story here anyway as the journey of well bred, smart Hester and wild girl Annie navigate the strangely named "Lavender House" school where Annie is beloved and Hester, who follows rules and dresses nicely and wants people to behave is considered a stick in the mud unfolds.

Basically the girls get into a sort of prank war even though its only Annie (or is it) pulling the pranks and then Hesters sister gets kidnapped by dirty, dirty gypsy's and Annie almost dies saving her which of course turns them into best friends and sorry I spoiled this but I mean lets be honest I'm the only one reading these.
