My favorites were:

1. Shadow Animals by Stephen Graham Jones

2. The Executioner by Jennifer Marie Brissett

3. Maggie Doll by Alex Jennings

Fantastic Stories of the Imagination had Nisi Shawl guest-edit its final issue, and the results are excellent. Nalo Hopkinson's haunting "Glass Bottle Trick" was my favorite, but I also enjoyed Irette Y. Patterson's "Legacy," and Henry Lien's "The Great Leap of Shin" has me looking forward to his 2018 novel Peasprout Chen, Future Legend of Skate and Sword. I'm sorry to see a publication end, but FSotI made it a meaningful ending.

Eehhhh?

In general, I was not particularly impressed. I had pretty high expectations (some of the names are extremely promising), however even the stories I liked best were closer to "okay" than to "good!" (usually, at least one aspect ended up dragging the story down to "okay"). Further, most stories I didn't really like at all. I'm not interested in going through each story individually, which is partially because my lack of interest in them in the first place, and partially because the lack of motivation has dragged out my reading of this collection for so long that I'm already forgetting a lot of what I read.

Frankly, I was hoping for some short-story-gems and all I got was the occasional neat idea.

I really enjoyed most of the stories in this book while others missed the mark, overall a good & quick read.
